Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa urged the UPA Government headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to set up an IIT in the State for the benefit of students pursuing technical education.
In a letter to Dr Singh on Tuesday, Mr Yeddyurappa urged the Prime Minister to look into the matter and direct the Ministry of Human Resource Development to sanction setting up of an IIT in the State at the earliest.
Bangalore, considering its large number of research and development institutions of international repute, particularly in the field of science and technology, is treated as ‘silicon valley of India’. Karnataka has more than 100 global companies and a largest work force in high-tech area. Needless to say that these research and development institutions, whether in public or private sector, need high quality human resource which the IITs are known to produce in our country, CM said in a letter to the PM.
