CHITAPUR (GULBARGA DIST): Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa today launched a broadside against the Congress party and said that the
voters of Chitapur had taught a fitting lesson to the Congress by rejecting it in the byelection and electing Valmiki Naik of the
Baratiya Janata Party instead. Speaking at a public meeting after laying the foundation stones for the Nagavi Yellamma Temple complex, the building for the Government Polytechnic and Fire Fighting Service station building in Chitapur town, Mr. Yeddyurappa took a dig at the reported comment of the Union Labour Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge that voters of the Chitapur Assembly Constituency should introspect on the defeat of the Congress in the byelections.
Chiding Mr. Kharge for his comments on the outcome of the byelection, in which his son Priyank Kharge was defeated by Mr. Naik, the Chief
Minister said, “Yes, the voters of Chitapur have elected the BJP candidate only after introspecting on the performance of the Congress
party for the past 62 years.”
