BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Friday suggested the construction of a Gandhi Memorial Hall at Gandhi Bhavan here. Participating in the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations organised at Gandhi Bhavan, he offered the State Government’s assistance in the setting up a memorial hall and called for immediate steps to prepare the project proposal.
The Gandhi Jayanti celebrations were organised by the Karnataka Gandhi Memorial Fund, the Gandhi Peace Foundation and the Nehru Yuvaka Kendra. He said steps would be taken to include Gandhian philosophy in school and college syllabuses. Also, displaying the portrait of Gandhiji would be made mandatory in schools, colleges and government offices, he said. Though Gandhian teachings had been embraced by countries around the world, the people of the nation in which Gandhiji was born were falling behind in giving the great leader his due, Mr. Yeddyurappa said.
