MANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yedyurappa unleashed a campaign vehicle, “Matsya Ratha” (fish-chariot) at an election rally in the Thokkotu area near here late on Thursday.The chariot carrying campaigners from the Moghaveera community will tour the district from Friday and seek votes for the Bharatiya Janata Party nominee for Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha Constituency Nalin Kumar Kateel.Party workers told The Hindu that the Moghaveera community was once a formidable vote bank for the BJP till recently. It had, however, deviated to other political parites. The chariot was aimed at regaining the lost ground with that community, they said.
Earlier, a large number of supporters waited for nearly two ours for the arrival of the Chief Minister’s cavalcade. The party’s campaigners, including Mr. Kateel, had a tough time retaining the interest of the audience, who were getting restless with the speeches of various leaders and were desperately looking forward to Mr. Yedyurappa’s arrival. However Mr. Yeddyurappa was greeted with cheers and slogans by a large number of people.
