Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has directed Deputy Commissioners and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of zilla panchayats to implement drought relief measues on a war footing in 20 drought-hit districts.He also told the districts authorities to take steps to supply drinking water and provide jobs under the National Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who has chaired a high level meeting on drought and floods at his home office Krishna here, said the Central team would arrive to the State on August 23 to study the flood and famine situation in Karnataka. Out of 29 districts, seven districts were affected by floods while 20 districts were affected by drought, he said.The Government has sought the Central assistance of Rs. 318 crore to tackle famine and floods and Rs. 395 crore under National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF) to mitigate drinking water problem and supply fodder.
