HAVERI: Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said the central government has agreed to provide Rs 4,600 crore to the state for implementing National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) during 2010-11. This would enable farmers to build check-dams, canals and bunds to their fields.
Addressing mediapersons at Mannur village near Haveri on Wednesday, the CM said the state government has spent Rs 2.350 crore in 2009-10 and Rs 357 crore in 2008-09 under the scheme.
The state has witnessed the worst-ever floods last year, because of which 305 villages were badly affected and five lakh houses were inundated. “The government will construct 70,000 houses for the flood victims,” he added.
