Mangalore, Aug 10: The Karnataka government is ready to approach the Supreme Court, if necessary, on the issue of classical status to Kannada language, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said. Talking to media, on Saturday, Aug 9 at Marry Hill helipad here, he said the Tamil Nadu had already got the classical status to Tamil language.
However, any attempt from the Tamil Nadu government to stall the classical status to Kanada would result in a bitter relationship
between the two states, he added. The state government had learnt that the Central Committee, which was set up to look into the issue, had submitted its report in favour of Karnataka, he said.
To a question, he said the state government had already released funds for strengthening the police and anti-Naxal force in the state. He said the government had also prepared a list of small farmers for providing financial assistance of Rs 1,000 for procuring fertilisers and seeds.
The government had set apart Rs 500 crore in the budget for the farmers, he added.
