PPP ventures to bring Metro costs down: CM

BANGALORE: Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the Sampige Road Metro Station in Malleswaram, the first Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) venture of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).Yeddyurappa said PPP initiatives for Metro Rail construction are one way to reduce the costs of the project and make it viable, besides ensuring immediate social benefits. “Such PPP initiatives that benefit both the public and the private should be explored more by the civic bodies for the benefit of end users,” he said.The CM was optimistic that the seven-km Reach-1 of the first elevated section of Metro Rail from Byappanahalli to the Chinnaswamy Stadium would be commissioned for commercial operation by December.“The full network under phase 1 (of 42.3 kilometres) is expected to be commissioned by March 2013,” he said.


The CM said that Rs 200 crore would be spent to develop 25 lakes in the city.
