No compromise on Belgaum: Yeddyurappa

SHIVAYOGA MANDIR (Bagalkot)/Bangalore: Taking a tough stand, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Tuesday said there cannot be any compromise on the border issue and the Mahajan commission report stipulating that Belgaum is part of Karnataka is final and binding.

Yeddyurappa’s statement was in response to his Maharashtra counterpart Ashok Chavan’s reaction to “Belgaum being made the second capital of Karnataka,” an announcement made by the former on Monday. Chavan said: “Yeddyurappa has spoken out of turn as it is totally wrong of him to make such an announcement when the matter is in the Supreme court, before which our plea to declare Belgaum and Karwar as part of Maharashtra is still pending. He should have maintained status quo.”
