Karnataka Government, several organizations and companies on Friday conducted several programmes to mark the World Environment Day. While the Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa planted a sampling to mark the day, several students took out a rally in the city to create awareness about climate change.
The Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) also conducted a programe. Participating in the World Environment Day celebrations at Bangalore on Friday, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests A K Verma, IFS, said India is planning to launch a massive afforestation project, called Green India Programme, covering six million hectares of degraded forest land, which is probably the worlds largest environment protection programme.
