Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa gave away awards to artistes and technicians at a glittering Karnataka Film Awards Presentation function at Nehru Stadium here on Sunday. While Puneet Rajkumar received the Best Actor Award, Umashree was given the Best Actress Award. As many as 29 awards were presented on the occasion. Mr. Yeddyurappa also gave away the Rajkumar Award to late Vishnuvardhan, which was received by his wife Bharati, and the Life-long Achievement Award to Parvathamma Rajkumar. Film director Renuka Sharma, selected for the Puttanna Kanagal Award, was not present to receive it. Minister for Information Katta Subramanya Naidu, who released a souvenir on the occasion, referred to the steps taken by the Government for development of Kannada cinema. He said the Government had decided to raise the incentive for national award-winning Kannada films from Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh.
