Bangalore: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday visited the rural parts of Shanghai region and interacted with farmers there.He visited paddy fields, tortoise rearing centres and fish ponds, and spoke to farmers who have taken up additional income-generating activities along with agriculture.
In a village called “Mao Qiao Villa”, the Chief Minister spoke to a farmer couple Hu Xiu Feng and Feng Shui Ying with the help of a Chinese interpreter and learnt about the ways of Chinese village life and other things.A senior official accompanying the Chief Minister said Mr. Yeddyurappa was impressed with the neatness and the infrastructure facilities in rural parts of China. He was also surprised to see the elderly people leading an active life.
The Chief Minister enquired about the local administration practices. Along with members of the Karnataka delegation he visited the rural roadside vegetable and fruit market and acquainted himself with the marketing of the farm produce.The visiting delegation visited the Shanghai Urban Infrastructure Exhibition Centre, where he was briefed about the future city planning (2030) and also the proposed Shanghai World Expo 2010. With these two visits, the Chief Minister could experience rural as well as urban life style of Chinese simultaneously and expressed his desire to implement at least some of the practices back home, which have helped ease the life in urban and rural parts of China.
