The Dharmasthala Rural Development Trust has scored the first in fulfilling its promise of building 1,000 houses for the flood-affected in North Karnataka.Dr. D.Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shrikshetra Dharmasthala today in a meeting with the Chief Minister has assured him that the plans for the houses are ready and the soil testing made at various places in Northern Karnataka however states that the soil conditions were soft and houses may need hard tarmac foundation which the Dharmasthala Trust will build. The two leaders met on Sunday and discussed about modalities of construction.
Dr. Hegde said liberal contributions from the public had been pouring into the Trust, which would be utilised to build more houses. “We have already launched work on relocating Kongawad village in Dharwad district. We will build more houses when we receive contributions. The houses will be built on lands provided by the government,” he said, adding that from January, self-help groups will be formed under the Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development project in flood-hit areas and provide them jobs.
