Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has instructed Kodagu deputy commissioner and the state transport commissioner to take stringent action against illegal plying of jeeps in Kodagu district. Recently, a clash between coffee planters and jeep owners led to severe complications. Some service organizations have opposed the illegal movement which is causing loss to the government exchequer and to private permitted bus owners. These jeeps carry passengers on the main bus routes. They have been crticised for dwindling money. Due to the abnormally high prices charged by these jeeps, labour cost has increased to double and the planters are unable to bear the burden.
